Who We Are
REMA is the Black and minority ethnic sector infrastructure, support and development organisation for Rotherham. We are an independent charity that helps build a vibrant, effective and influential BME voluntary, community and faith sector across the borough.
Our membership includes over 50 local groups, ranging from well established training providers to small, informal community and faith groups. REMA provides organisational support, funding advice, volunteering support, and advice and training to our members, and we help BME communities have a stronger say in decisions that affect their lives.
Our History
REMA was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee on 11 April 2003, and became a registered charity on 11 February 2011. Since then, we have grown into the main umbrella organisation supporting Black and minority ethnic voluntary, community and faith groups across Rotherham, working alongside individuals, community groups and mainstream partners to build a fairer, more connected borough.

Who We Support
REMA supports both individuals and organisations from Rotherham's Black and minority ethnic communities, including refugees and people seeking asylum.
Individuals and Families
People from BME, refugee and asylum seeking communities looking for settlement support, immigration advice or family support.
Community Organisations
Black and minority ethnic voluntary, community and faith groups in Rotherham, from new groups to established organisations.
Volunteers
People who want to give their time to support REMA's work and Rotherham's BME communities.
Community Development, Partnership and Family Hub Work
REMA works closely with BME voluntary, community and faith organisations across Rotherham, helping the sector stay effective, sustainable and well connected. We provide a Family Hub Community Navigator for BAME families, working alongside Rotherham's Family Hubs to link parents and children with services including immigration advice, settlement support, English classes and food bank access.
We also lead and take part in wider partnership projects, including research into inequalities in ageing with the University of Sheffield, housing research with Rotherfed, and a project with Work Wise encouraging BME young people into STEM careers. REMA provides management support to the Rotherham Ethnic Communities Network, R.E.C.N, giving BME communities and organisations a stronger, independent voice in the town.
